Zero defects is the vision

Six Sigma

Six Sigma

The term Six Sigma was introduced in the 1980s by the companies Motorola and General Electric.

Six Sigma stands for the objective of reducing the frequency of mistakes in a process towards zero. This is achieved by stabilising processes and reducing process variation.

Six Sigma is based on both the organisational anchoring of technical experts and their specialized work.

Structural organisation

Among other things, Six Sigma is associated with the establishment of specific specialist functions in companies. The Champion is the project portfolio manager who ensures that the most economically interesting improvement projects are carried out. The Master Black Belt supports the other functions in terms of training and the use of methods and tools. Depending on the complexity of the task, Black Belts or Green Belts work on the individual improvement projects.
An essential part of the sustainable integration of the Six Sigma approach in the company is based on the organisational anchoring.

Development

As well as being used to improve existing processes, Six Sigma is becoming increasingly important in product and process development through Design for Six Sigma (DFSS).

Methods and tools

In addition to mapping the continuous improvement project process in the DMAIC process (Define-Measure-Analyse-Improve-Control), Six Sigma has many tools for statistical process evaluation, test planning and process modeling.

Application

Alongside Lean, Six Sigma is the most suitable approach for improving processes (production processes, logistics processes, administrative processes, etc.). Six Sigma increases the robustness of the value-enhancing process steps and therefore complements Lean very well, which is described in a separate section.

You do not need to have a Six Sigma organisation or be a stochastics expert to benefit from the methods. We are happy to support you by applying the methods and tools in improvement projects that you could not solve with your previous understanding of processes. You will be surprised by the results!
