Are you still extinguishing or are you already preventing?
Produce until it breaks – repair until it produces again – what at first seems sensible – even “lean” – makes no sense on closer inspection. Why?
Maintenance fashions
Condition-based maintenance, risk-based inspection, reliability-centered maintenance, predictive maintenance – why are you only familiar with these terms from glossy brochures?
Why do you only know these terms from glossy brochures and congresses and not from your own practical experience? Can only large corporations afford them?
All the methods mentioned make a valuable contribution to the success of maintenance management if they are used in the right place. And – these methods do not replace existing methods, they complement them.
There is no maintenance without people
In our projects, in addition to the economically sensible use of these methods, we pay particular attention to the impact on the manually oriented employees in maintenance. Only when the skilled workers recognize the benefits of these elements will the introduction be successful!
It is not enough to have a few pioneers on board. Everyone has to be involved. Don’t expect those who have missed the boat to follow!
Less is more
Naming improvement initiatives with the latest buzzwords can signal a spirit of optimism in maintenance. However, these modern terms only reach many employees as empty phrases that will soon disappear again.
By setting realistic and tangible milestones, the fading fads are replaced by a step-by-step development that is actually taking place. The latest developments in maintenance management are not incorporated immediately, but in line with the current position of the maintenance organization under consideration.
Following the rule: “First the content, then the headlines!”, employees can easily be introduced to modern approaches.
